7-12-24 THOUGHTS
A short but powerful reading this morning. Each of us can make application of these simple words. Our dilemma seems to continually be, “the processes of life or the WORDS OF JESUS”! Three words jump out in the reading, “distracted, worried and bothered!” 77 years of my life are used up, and too much has slipped through my fingers with these three words. Too much Martha, not enough Mary! If I read correctly, I’ll get to keep the Mary part and the Martha part will be lost. These two ladies were in Jesus’ favorite people list! Both of them! Several other words come to mind that we need desperately: priority, focus, centering, “ALL”! Interestingly, if we use Mary as a metaphor for STUDY/HEAR and Martha as a metaphor for FRUIT BEARING, we have both halves of a biblical WHOLE! Examine the self accurately... always.
Luke 10:38-42 Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. 39 She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord’s feet, listening to His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me." 41 But the Lord answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; 42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her."
My Prayer:
Lord, keep us from distraction and worry and being bothered by this world. Absorb our minds with Your mind. May we allow that to happen, O God. Help us to focus our all on knowing You! Give us the joy of Your salvation. May we seek You as our necessary food. May we find Your fullness with overwhelming rejoicing based on our passionate desire to know You. Thank You our God, that we can even think this way! Empower our lives to live for You and eternity.
In the name of Jesus, Amen.
